Chow chow mor kootu
Chow chow / Chayote is also popular in South Indian cuisine. It is popularly referred to as 'Bangalore brinjal' and is used in vegetable stews. Chayote is originally native to Mexico, but has been introduced as a crop worldwide.
Ingredients:
- 1 no - Chow chow (chop into cubes)
- 3 tbsp – Curd
- 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
- 1 tsp - Coriander seeds
- 1 tsp – Bengal gram
- 3 tsp - Coconut grated
- 1-2 nos - Green chillies
- 1 tsp – Rice
- Salt as needed
Seasonings:
- 1 tsp - Oil
- 1/4 tsp - Mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp – Split black gram
- 1 no – Dry red chilli
Preparation method:
- Cut chow chow into small cubes and boil it in water with salt.
- Grind cumin seeds, coriander seeds, bengal gram, coconut and rice to a smooth paste. Then add curd to ground paste and mix well.
- Add the ground paste with curd to the boiled vegetable, cook it for a second and switch off the stove because it should not boil.
- Season with mustard seeds, split black gram and red chillies. Serve hot with sambar, kara kuzhambu.
Notes:
- You can replace chow chow with vegetables like white pumpkin,cabbage,cauliflower and carrot.
